J. Bruce McKinney, the newly retired
Chairman of the Board of the Hershey Entertainment & Resort Company (HERCO)
and longtime avid Hershey Bears fan and Hershey Youth Hockey supporter,
recently made a generous contribution to the Hershey Jr. Bears (The Hershey Jr. Bears) to establish the J. Bruce McKinney Scholarship Fund.
The Hershey Jr. Bears is proud and privileged to be the beneficiary of this
kind and considerate gesture McKinney, a graduate of the Milton Hershey
School, often remarked that it was a Godsend that the private school for
orphaned children founded by Milton and Catherine Hershey, was there for him
in his time of need. In return McKinney has devoted his personal and
professional life to repaying a "debt of gratitude" for what the institution
for underprivileged youth did for him during his formative years.
In that same spirit of goodwill and benevolence,
combined with McKinney's love of the sport of ice hockey, his
monetary donation to The Hershey Jr. Bears will be used to help defray expenses for those
young boys and girls who may experience a financial burden in their ability
to pay their playing fee. The J. Bruce McKinney Scholarship Fund will assist
those individuals who desire to play youth hockey as part of the
The Hershey Jr. Bears organization, but, for whatever reason, do not have the necessary
financial resources to pay the annual participation fee.
Parents or guardians who
think they may qualify for financial assistance from the J. Bruce McKinney
Scholarship Fund should contact John Devaney at 367-3225 for an application. Each applicant will be evaluated on a
case-by-case basis based upon need-based criteria as established by the
fund.
Readers interested in
contributing to the fund can do so by writing a check to the Hershey Jr.
Bears,
100 West Hersheypark Drive, Hershey, PA, 17033.
